When you need to rotate images
Phone photos are the usual suspect — you take a picture while holding your phone sideways and it saves with the wrong orientation. Scanned documents can have the same problem when the scanner doesn't auto-detect which way is up. If you've got a batch of images that all came out rotated the same way, you can fix them all at once here.
It's also useful for creative work. Sometimes you want to deliberately rotate a photo 180° for an artistic effect, or turn a landscape shot into a portrait crop starting point.
Does rotation affect quality?
For PNG and WebP files, rotation is completely lossless — pixels are rearranged without any re-compression. For JPG files, the image is re-encoded at 92% quality, which introduces minimal compression. In practice, the difference is invisible to the eye. If preserving every last bit of quality matters for your workflow, consider converting to PNG first, rotating, and then converting back.

For PNG and WebP (lossless), there's zero quality loss. For JPG, there's a tiny amount of re-compression, but at 92% quality it's visually imperceptible.
